The Hot (Towel) Mat
Mat smells terrible but design is good
The hot mat is in essence a great concept. I get great grip and use it on top of my non smelly Jade yoga mat. The problem is the smell. The rubber smell that comes with this product is terrible. I have washed it 6 times already and the smell has reduced some. However it seems to intensify when the heat gets going in class. It also has a bit of a sour taste. If you put your sweaty forehead on it in child pose and then get up and continue to sweat the sour taste rolls down your face into your mouth. Same with hands etc. The smell even travels to other items that are washed and dried with it.
This is not the quality product we expect from the brand.

With the grips, not too shabby
I bought this, but like some others, with the inspiring words made to be the grip. I would much recommend this over one without. They need to bring that back for everyone. I find it's ideal as the travel mat it's meant to be, as it's thick enough to withstand everything, yet easy enough to fold up, and super convenient to wash. However, I use it mostly over my mat (The Mat) during hot yoga, and it has never ever slipped. It has a grip on the bottom just like The Mat, so I don't see how everyone is slipping, even without a yoga mat underneath it. I love it. I'd buy other colors, make pink!!

Kind of Dangerous!!
I got the Hot (Towel) Mat with the grips on them. It seems to be exactly the same as the one without, but with grips made out of inspiring writing (really cute).
The mat is not suitable to use by itself. Minimal support was already expected because of the thinness (which is not an issue for me). I was going to use this as a great travel mat because it is super light, convenient and even washes well, but it slips all over the place. Using the towel side up for hot yoga, the mat slides about a foot backwards every class, and it does not even remain flat. The grips on the towel side of the mat aren't very stable either, as I still find myself slipping even in down dog. My neck is aching from all the whiplash from slipping. Was really hoping to make this mat work, but I guess it will only work on top of another mat, which defeats the purpose of buying a $58 all-in-one hot yoga mat.

Sadly? the reviews are correct.
I bought this to go over the The Mat in pink. I read reviews of peoples mats staining. I sweat in Hot Vinyasa and didn't want to stain up my pretty pink mat. The Towel Mat ? while yes it's nice you can wash and dry it, it's terribly slick. I tried a downward dog and my hands just slid right on to end of mat. I ended up pouring water into my hands and rubbing all over area where my hands would be. I had to do this twice as it began to dry out and become slippery again. Yes, I understand the rubber side provide more grip, but wasn't this MADE FOR SWEAT? Apparently Lulu messed up by getting rid of the design on older mat which I do not have.
Not happy, wouldn't suggest buying unless you want to 'wet it' down before you sweat on it.
Sometimes you need to realize, if it's not broke, don't fix it. When something has GREAT REVIEWS? THAT MEANS WE LOVE IT? KEEP MAKING IT.

Awesome for Bikram Yoga
after using another brand of towel mat that would crease up and twist with my foot constantly, my husband bought me this towel mat which I use over the top of my regular and holy moly!! What a difference. It is so super absorbent and doesn't move or slide at all on top of my regular mat. I'm obsessed. It's a great mat.

Almost broke my back transitioning from chattarunga to warrior poses....the mat pulls and slides wherever your feet are planted. Out of my hour and 15 minute class, I bet I spent 12 minutes repositioning my mat after every pose....annoying and a little embarrassing.

do NOT purchase this mat!
When I read the description of this mat online I was sold! I immediately went out and purchased it and was so excited to use it in my hot yoga practice. I purchased the original mat with the grips and the inspirational sayings.
I was VERY disappointed after trying it out. Yes it will machine wash fine and the colour doesn't fade at all. I like that I can wash it after each practice and it smells fresh. However, I do not like the ZERO support that it provides. You can't even manage a downward dog with this mat let alone a warrior 1 or warrior 2. The mat has NO grip. It doesn't stay in place on the floor and the minute you apply pressure through your hands or feet it slides forwards and backwards. I end up sliding everywhere. I thought I would bear with this frustration. I thought to myself "maybe im not following the washing instructions and I have messed it up that way." Nope, this mat is just useless. The last time I used it I ended up about 3 feet away from where I had started the class.
The mat had me dreading the part of our practice where we would do any sort of movement that would end up in me sliding around like a fool. I was finally so embarrassed with how disruptive the mat was that I abandoned using it.
I really hope that a customer service rep reads this and contacts me for a refund because I feel totally scammed by this purchase. I love lululemon products and hope to be a loyal customer but now I am wary when purchasing from them. I hope that fellow shopppers will read this and be aware!

More like a towel than a mat
When I got this mat I was super excited. Loved the color and the ease of being able to throw it in the washing machine. I've used it a few times now and am regretting not getting "The Mat" instead. Although it says the towel side is supposed to be "sticky" during a sweaty session - I have to disagree. I found I was slipping and couldn't keep a good grip. I knew the thickness was only 2mm and thought that would be enough for me. Unfortunately, I can feel the hard floor beneath me, which is super uncomfortable. I'll probably continue using this as a sweat towel over the studio provided mats until I can purchase "the Mat"... provided I don't have an unfortunate mishap and slip. Fingers crossed.

Why did you get rid of the grips???
I bought a towel mat last year; the one with the writing decorating it, and I absolutely loved it. I practice a few times a week and have several mats, I've gotten into the habit of using this mat layered over my other mats. So I bought a second one this season, regardless of it not having the grips...the result, two black eyes after slipping in a pose. It was so frustrating.
I absolutely would have recommended the mat from last season to my friends; however without the grips this one is severely lacking. This one is going to be an expensive mat for my dogs to lay on. :( I'm so disappointed.

Slipped and fell on my face
As someone who just got into bikram and hot yoga, I was looking for a towel or mat of my own to bring to class. I was told in the store that this one is perfect for those classes and that I can throw the mat in the machine which sold me right then and there, even though it's a whopping $58 for a super thin mat. However, when I took it to class the next evening, I couldn't get a grip when in downward dog, and slipped and fell right on my face. Seriously? $58 for a mat with absolutely no grip?
