The Mat 3mm

why we made this

Lugging a heavy mat to and from class can crush our calm. We designed this lightweight version of The Mat with a thinner piece of moisture-absorbing rubber so we can stay light on our feet pre- and post-practice. Shedding a little weight has never been so easy.

fabric + features

  • reversible - choose the surface to get the right grip for your practice
  • thin polyurethane top layer wicks away sweat and absorbs moisture
  • antimicrobial additive helps prevent the growth of mold, bacteria and fungi on your mat
  • natural rubber has a slight smell, but don't worry, it fades over time (we suggest you roll it out to air it out between practices)
  • wipe your mat down with warm, soapy water or soak it after a super sweaty class
  • imported

fit + function

  • designed for: yoga
  • fabric(s): polyurethane, rubber, latex
  • dimensions: 71" x 26" (180cm x 66cm)
  • weight: 3.96lbs (1.8kg)
  • thickness: 0.12" (3mm)

The Mat 3mm 2.8 5 27 27
Disappointed I was pretty disappointed with this mat. I went to the store right before a hot yoga class to invest in a mat. I found that the sales associate was extremely unhelpful. I originally wanted to purchase the 3mm Mat in black but they said that the black was not an option Lululemon had created, which now I see is not true because you can clearly buy it online. Instead of letting me know I could purchase it online she tried to convince me to buy the more expensive 5 mm Mat in black. I did not however want a thicker mat because it is heavier and I explained that to her and then she told me I could just buy the yoga strap, once again a more expensive unwanted option. I settled for the 3 mm in purple, a fine color, but what she did not tell me was how slippery and not appropriate for hot yoga this mat was, even though I let her know that was the purpose. I've resorted to renting out the studio's mats instead. December 19, 2014
LOVE! I originally bought the regular Mat. I take public transportation so I felt that the regular mat was too heavy to carry around and returned it. I was reluctant to purchase this one though, because of all the bad reviews. I saw it in a gorgeous Angel Blue colour and just decided to take the plunge. So far I love it. No slipping, no buckling like the reviews mentioned below. If you don't mind the thinner mat, I think it is totally worth the money. The only con is the smell. It has an awful smell, though this one didn't smell as bad as the Regular Mat. I have a more in-depth review on my blog! http://hello-harley.blogspot.ca/2014/11/review-lululemon-mat-3mm.html December 15, 2014
LOVE!!!!! I was conflicted on getting this mat due to the reviews. So happy that I choose this mat. Have also gotten so many compliments on my mat (Color: Dark Green). It has an excellent grip, which was my main concern due to sweaty hands. It's also perfect for on the go. I commute on the bus and it's perfect. December 14, 2014
LOVE Love this mat! It is super sticky and i never slip when i'm using it. I do corepower vinyasa and sculpt classes and i am absolutely obsessed. The mat definitely has a sort of chemical smell, but that doesn't really matter to me. Also, not a huge amount of cushion, but the fact that I don't need to use a towel and it stays so sticky makes this mat totally worth it. November 17, 2014
Love love love love! I can't say enough good things about this mat. I teach and practice hot power yoga at CorePower and I was really struggling with my Manduka mat, even with a yogitoes towel it was not the best. A lot of other yogis have the lulu mat and I had heard great things, so I bought one. I tell my students all the time that this mat has changed my life! It is SO sticky. I sweat a ton and I never slip and don't need to use a towel with it. I heard it would be stinky at first, so after purchasing it I layed it out at home for a few days (and just used my old mat) and now it doesn't smell at all. It does get a little scuffed up, but they mostly go away when I wash it, and it's a really small price to pay for how sticky, thick, and overall awesome it is. I'll never use another mat. Fashion before Function The mat looks great however it disappointed me in several ways. One the smell, its a strong chemical smell that doesn't seem to go away. The label warns that because of its material it needs to be aired out prior to use however after airing it out for 3 weeks the smell has still not gone away and clings to me after use. Two, it has very little cushion at all. When using it I feel the hardness of the studio floor right through it. I need to place another mat under it for cushion. I have never had to double up on mats before. Three, it gets really dirty fast. It picks up every bit of dirt in sight. You can literally see dirt streaks on it. Four, for something that provides very little cushion it is heavy to carry around. I would not recommend this mat and am disappointed that I spent money on it. Even worse I have to buy another new mat to replace it because I don't want to use it. October 31, 2014
Wrong mat I have had this mat for 5 days. After talking to an "Educator" and explaining that I am a commuter that does hot yoga on my breaks and/or after work I asked which mat would be best. She insisted on this one. I even explained that I am a sweater (profuse sweater). She then said that I could buy The Towel to go over my mat to help with sweat absorption. I asked if that was the best thing, she reassured that it was the best solution for me. I purchased both products only to find that there is The Hot (Towel) Mat; which is thin, light, and has a towel layered on it. I am a little peeved that she didn't mention this when it would suit my needs to a tee. Now I have to deal with my mat and towel slipping every so often while I practice. In conclusion, don't always go by the Educators suggestions. I feel slightly jaded having bought two products when I only needed one. Do your research for your needs. Don't get me wrong, I love LuLem! I just wish I could exchange my mats and this issue wouldn't have come to fruition had I done my research prior...or been offered better advice. October 26, 2014
Beautiful, but slips too much to use I purchased The Mat 3mm about two weeks ago, as I've been practicing a lot lately (2 to 3 days a week) and my old mat was very worn out. I went to the store and spoke with a salesperson to make sure I was picking out a mat that suited my needs. The Mat 3mm was recommended since I am a commuter and carry it around the city all day. It is nice looking and looks great with my lulu mat strap. HOWEVER, the mat has been awful to use. As others have mentioned, it moves all over the place and makes it incredibly difficult to focus on any one pose. I found that I spent the entire practice each time I used the mat worried about how it was moving, and then stopping after each pose to readjust the mat. I'm now very upset that I have a mat I can't use and have resorted to renting at my studio until I can find something better. October 4, 2014
Was good for short time When I first got the mat it was great and I loved it. NOW whenever I use it, the mat moves around on the ground and it doesn't stay flat! I can't do warrior 2 without it moving or many poses. Sometimes I have to get up from a laying down stretch to flatten my mat because it bunches up and moves! Also, it looks gross now because you can see every thing on it. I wash it after almost every class with spray and wipe it down and it still always looks dirty. I do power yoga like 5 times a week and I've only had the mat for about 1.5 months and it already stopped doing it's job! September 19, 2014
Doesn't Perform I bought this mat a few months ago as an alternative to The Mat. I am in graduate school, and the idea of carrying a thinner, lighter mat around campus and to and from classes appealed to me. But with the thin mat, I feel I've sacrificed a lot in comfort and functionality for only a two pound difference. I love that I stick to this mat, I like the weight, and the absorbency is impressive. Beyond that though, I am thoroughly underwhelmed with the mat's performance. The mat moves all around on the floor throughout my practice, and buckles under my feet in warrior 2 or any other wide legged stance. I am a very small person so this is in no way a product of my stature. Though I stick to the mat, the mat itself moves on the ground and I often end up losing my balance. It also is not enough padding for me. My wrists hurt at the end of classes, and any kneeling posture is nearly impossible. I wish I had gone with The Mat. I?d rather carry around a few extra pounds than deal with the slipping, pulling, and discomfort. September 15, 2014
