Great Mat but I just can't stand the smell anymore
If you sweat a lot, don't have problem of the plastic smell and is looking for a non-slip mat. this is your mat.
I heard the mat was going to have a plastic smell but it will fade away over time. Yes, the smell was very strong so I had my brand new mat laying on the floor over 3 weeks. I wiped it with wet towel, sprayed with citrus scented natural clear over and over again... the smell was still strong. I can smell right away when I get on the mat. So I leave it out flat in the house for another month, do the same thing, wipe over with wet towel whenever I pass by.
However, I still smell it, especially when I do ujjayi breathing in child's pose. It made me feel very uncomfortable.
I do have allergic/ sensitive nose. My nose starts running when I get certain smells and this mat triggers it... I do believe that most people who don't have sensitive nose or don't do Ujjayi breathing may not notice as much. I have tried probably 15 classes as people says bad smell will eventually gone over time but I wish I had used my old mat each time during my practice.
oh... and by the way, I live in Texas. With over 100 degree past couple days, I noticed my mat smells stronger when I get it out from my trunk.

The must have for Yoga and Pilates.
The mat is the most beneficial thing to take to Yoga. It makes you feel safe because you do not slip, which allows you to sink in deeper to poses and helps you to increase flexibility. I have more people using the mat in my Yoga and Pilates classes than anything else because I encourage them to try mine and after they have tried down dog and feel that their feet and hands wont slip they are able to sink back and really enjoy the stretch. I usually see them within a week later with the mat and them thanking me and showing me how they have improved their posture in many of the poses.

Love the mat, hate the stains
My siblings gave me this mat for Christmas and I have absolutely loved using it. It has the most amazing grip and has really improved my practice. However, it is incredibly difficult to clean and stains remarkably easily. I use the towel with the mat at every practice, so there isn't anything that should be leaving a stain, except for sweat through the practice. It's frustrating because I love using the mat, but hate unrolling it to see the stains and know that I can't do anything about them. I used to be able to spray and clean my cheap Costco mat after every practice and it worked wonders, but this mat absorbs the spray and nothing wipes away (probably due to the wicking nature of the material so it's doing its job, just makes it that much harder to clean). It does have a distinct smell, but like the description says, as long as you air it out before your first practice and in between all subsequent practices, it isn't even noticeable. All in all, it really is a wonderful mat, but if there are any other cleaning instructions out there, or if anyone has any tips on how to keep the mat clean, I would love to hear them!

2 Year Shelf Life
I bought this mat in a lovely purple color in March of 2013. Though it has been through a lot with me, including the evolution of my practice, it is sadly time that we part ways.
Admittedly, I sweat more than most women my age/size/body type. I loved my mat the first two years I had it because I never slipped. Scuff marks and smell? Who cares - that's a well-loved mat and frankly, a huge first world problem. However, over time, the mat has begun to lose ALL grip. I've actually resorted to using the cheaper sticky mat I purchased at a studio when I first began practicing.
Last Saturday, we all went to a yoga class, and I kindly borrowed my cheap mat to my friend and took my lulu for myself. Even with my lululemon mat towel, I struggled to grip until the towel got moist with my sweat. Furthermore, we were practicing at a local venue with concrete floors. I was the only one who suffered serious pain in my legs, similar to shin splint pain when running with bad shoes. In fact, I actually felt I HAD shin splints.
My point is this: this is a great mat for two years, but after that, there's an expiration date. I admit that I should be a product tester because I have the uncanny ability to break/wear down anything I own, partially because I've not always had the luxury of having many things or being able to afford expensive items like this. In any case, I'll have to shop around for a more durable product. The fact that this cheaper mat feels ten times better to my body right now makes me think there's no reason to buy another or recommend it to anyone conscious of spending money. I'm currently a medical student, so I'll have to be careful on my next investment.

Love at first use, now not so much
When I first bought my mat about a year ago, I loved it to pieces. Over time, I noticed that I started to slip a little more and the mat wasn't drying as well. As time went on, it got progressively worse, with my friends at my studio joking about the slip and slide noises and falls I'd have. I finally slipped during a wide angle forward fold and it just wasn't safe enough to sustain my practice. It has stains like others have mentioned but to me, those are just spots that show how much I loved and used it :)
I went to my local store today where I purchased the Mat and she said that I needed to buy a sweat towel because the mats weren't designed to be non-slippery. She said that even she uses the towel because she sweats too much in class (as if that would make me feel better?). Complete news to me because that's why I bought my Mat in the first place! I've always loved Lululemon but after my experience in the store today, I'm super disappointed.
So it was a great mat for a few months, but if you want something long term and non-slip without having to use a towel, according to the sales person, I have to look elsewhere.

I have had this mat for about 6 months and...
I HATE this mat because it is extremely prone to staining. I haven't had this mat very long; compared to my fellow yogis who purchased other brands (namely, Manduka) and have owned them for years, and it is severely stained. On top of that it is hard to clean, there are many different takes on how to clean the mat and none of them have worked for me - in fact they make the staining worse. Additionally, it smells - I've gotten used to it, its not terrible - the worst point is when you initially open and use the mat.
I LOVE this mat because it works for anyone who wants a mat where there is no fear of slipping and sliding. The surface looks sleek but, is actually has a great grip. I love how both sides of the mat are unique.

I immediately fell in love with this mat! I have tried so many before but I have always had problems with my hands and feet sliding around. This mat was everything I was looking for: sturdy, sticky and a great size. However, after about three weeks of use, and regular washing, I noticed orangey stains starting to appear on the mat and black marks from the bottom which were caused by rolling the mat up. I tried everything to get them out, but I couldn't so I decided to send it back in exchange for a new one. I spoke with customer service and they said they would happily do the return and the stains could very well be from makeup, oils, or even lotion on my hands. I was pleased with their help, but I sent my mat back over three and a half weeks ago and it JUST got to the warehouse and I have yet to receive my gift card.

No towels needed!
I've had this yoga mat for several months now and I use it 3-5 times per week at hot yoga. I have had no issues with losing grip; it's still the grippiest, most slip-proof mat I've used (and I've tried several that didn't work for me). I don't need to use a towel under my hands even through a steamy 75-minute class, and I get pretty sweaty in that 95-degree heat! As many other people have mentioned, the Mat is pretty smelly when you first buy it. I left mine in my car overnight for a few days and it aired out pretty well. I didn't find it to be as distracting as other people. I would definitely recommend this mat to anyone who is currently using a towel to keep from slipping. No towels needed with The Mat! It is pretty heavy compared to many other mats I've used, but it's worth it, I think.

Best Non-Slip Mat
Ok, so I've been through several different brands of mats, and I finally decided to take the plunge and splurge on this mat. It did not disappoint! I bought the gray mat with green underneath - very boring, yet still fun at the same time. The reason I love this mat so much is how well it retains its stickiness! I have made it through a dozen hot vinyasa/sculpt/power yoga classes absolutely dripping in sweat and haven't slipped AT ALL. I went with the 5mm over the 3mm because it provided better padding for arm balances and headstands. It is a little heavy, but a bag or straps (that I already had) make it manageable. I guess the big con for me on this mat is how strong the rubbery odor is... Though it is much better than B.O. Do yourself a favor and buy this mat!

I love this mat. I have had several different brands before this one. The only thing I have a problem with is its a bright pink mat that cannot be cleaned properly. A few times makeup has got on it and cannot be removed after trying several times. I am torn about buying another mat but black. This is the best mat for hot yoga by far, never slip just wish I could clean it. It looks dirty all the time.
