I bought this mat and was very excited to use it. I took it to a hot yoga class and once getting home I decided to disinfect it, since I did a lot of sweating during my class. I was shocked when part of the colour and grip of the mat wore off after wiping it down. I will not be buying again. For such an expensive mat I would expect better quality.

Becomes discolored quickly!
I bought The Mat in a light blue color in early 2013. Almost immediately, it became yellowed and dingy looking after being rolled up. It hasn't affected the quality of my practice, but it's become more noticeable over time and now I'm a bit embarrassed to bring it to class! I have tried cleaning it with vinegar+water several times; that definitely got rid of the "rubber" smell many people complain about, but did nothing for the yellow-ing effect!

This mat is definitely the highest quality mat you can purchase (in my opinion). And, if you leave it out and unrolled for a few days before using it, the smell will go away somewhat. I love this mat but I can't give it 5 stars because it has one major design flaw. The major flaw is that it's too large to fit into a standard yoga mat bag. I have 2 mat bags (one of which is very dear to me and I absolutely can't stand that this mat won't fit into it) and it doesn't fit into either. The most frustrating part about that is the sales person at the store did not explain that at all to me. If she had, I likely would have spent my gift card on other things. While I have been wanting this mat for a long time, I love my yoga bag and it's just really annoying that I have to choose between the two. If anything, Lulu employees should know to tell customers that the mats do not fit into standard bags. Now I have this very expensive (though admittedly great) mat that I have to carry without a bag OR leave at home and take an old mat so I can use a bag. Lulu should consider making mats that actually fit in something other than their strap carrier things.

Vast improvement in my yoga practice
I was hesitant to purchase this mat as it is a bit pricey along with the mixed reviews I read about this mat. However, I am happy to say this mat has changed my yoga practice for the better! Before, I would hesitate to go into poses like down dog due to slipping, and avoid inversions for fear of falling in front of everyone! A few things I love aboug this mat: 1) It is the perfect thickness. Perfect cushion for headstands! 2) It is sticky enough to feel confident in your down dog, but still allows you to transition smoothly between poses. I even purchased a towel for my old mat (that was about $60) to prevent slipping, and I do not need anything over this mat. Save yourself some money for "accessiories" for your mat and just buy this mat! 3) I purchased the purple color, and is a perfect color where it won't have sweat stains, but still adds a little color to your practice! After I clean my mat, I leave it unrolled to air out and I have not noticed any sweat stains! 4) If you leave the mat rolled out after you purchase it, the rubbery smell goes away (but I didn't really mind the smell to begin with, weird I know) 5) Lastly, some people complained about the heaviness of the mat, but honestly that is something I would not even think to complain about. I do not notice a "heaviness" to this mat. However, I would use the mat even if it were 10 pounds, now that would be a great arm workout ;) Overall, I am very happy I purchased this mat. Worth the money in my opinion!

So I purchased this mat after buying cheaper mats that I would slip on. I love this mat but recently the underside has become so gummy and sticky that I literally have to peel it off the floor after my hot power yoga practice. It leaves part of the mat, the black underside on the floor. I can't even roll the mat anymore because it's stickiness gets on my practice side of the mat. I am very disappointed and ready to throw it in the trash - this was not an inexpensive purchase for me!!!! Uggggh. Is this a common defect?

Best mat out there
I've tried them all & nothing compares to the Lulu mat. My old Jade mat started disintegrating within three months of daily use, and my Manduka & Prana mats were just too slippery to be safe in sweaty classes.
I resisted this Lulu mat for so long, but I can now say it is the best investment I've made so far. No matter how sweaty the class is, I am calm & completely focused on my practice rather than worrying about slipping.
Yes, it gets dirty over time (so buy a darker color) & yes, it smells a little funky at first (air it out). It is still the best mat on the market for a serious yogi. If you want to focus on your practice instead of your mat, this is the one for you.

Great mat, get the black
I purchased 'The Mat' after reading lots of reviews about how great it was.
I really like the thickness of the mat, it feels nice and sturdy under your feet and I've not noticed any slipping.
The only problem is that I had to return the blue mat I purchase because after the recommended first wash, it stained badly. It had round spots and long streaks all over it. It looked lilke I'd had it for years and I'd not used it once.
I swapped it without issue and got the black mat, not ideal but it will do the job.
Great mat but make sure you get the black.

Mat doesn't last
My husband found a great review for this mat so I decided to try it. I use it to practice Baptiste inspired yoga. I started using the mat August 20, 2014 and to, date, I've used it for 24 yoga classes. I've sweated in all the 24 classes and I've cleaned it with water only. Initially is was great; it never let me slip; it absorbed my sweat away and left a dry non-stick surface for me to flow through vinyasa's nicely. I LOVED IT. With the mat, I only needed a mat for class; not a mat and a mat towel. Lately (past 4 classes or so) it hasn't been absorbing as quickly resulting in some less than steller downdogs towards the end of the practice. I've had to put my hand towel on the mat to keep from sliding. Also, my hands slip in the beginning of my practice; to make sure it wasn't due to oil or lotion on my hands; I wash my hands prior to practice and it's the same thing. Sadly, I'll have to agree with all you yogini's who said that the mat is great at first but quickly looses it's ability to keep you from sliding. I'm not sure if I'll buy another one full price; but I'll take one as a gift or on sale - it was AWESOME for about 17 practices.

Love this mat!
I had a Manduka Pro for the longest time and loved it -- but for my hot yoga classes it seriously turned into a slip and slide!! I couldn't hold any pose because my hands and feet would slide immediately ( even with using a towel ). I'm a HUGE sweat-er though. I pour sweat in my hot classes. I even slide on Jade's. I bought this mat and could not be more grateful! I don't slide at all and I don't need a towel for the mat.
Only thing I don't like about this mat is it scratches up so easily. I've only used it a few times and there are scratches all over it.. I don't know where they came from since I roll my mat with the top surface facing inward.
