Happy so far?..
I've been practicing on this mat for about 4-5 weeks, and so far, I am very happy. I usually do a strenuous vinyasa practice, but I am not one to sweat a lot, so I have found the grip to be great from the beginning. It is fairly cushioned--my knees are fine in low poses. I love the darker purple color! The main problem with the mat is that it shows a lot of dirt and grease. I really hate putting my forehead on the mat, because it always leaves a mark that I can't seem to clean off. Before getting this mat, I had a Manduka that I really hated. That mat was much too hard on my joints. This one is much better! Yes, it does smell when you get it, but it wears off in a couple of weeks.

Not recommended for sweaty hands and feet
I think this is the mat I have. The mat itself appears not to have any identifier other than the Lululemon logo.
PROS: worked once. when it was brand new.
CONS: It lacks grip for sweaty palms and feet. The mat is useless for hot sweaty yoga sessions. It is heavy.
Anyone wants to trade this with me? I'm a sweaty dude but the mat is clean. It worked only once. Rinsed with running water to get the smell off and stopped working. It's useless....
I'm in SF

Why is everyone hating?
I hesitated on getting this mat for the longest time. I read the many bad reviews and thought it was not worth the money.
I got it as a gift about 2 months ago and I am in love! its cushiony and thick so my knees don't hurt. I practice bikram, so there is tons of sweat, this mat is amazing at wicking the sweat away that I don't even use a towel any more! which is absolutely amazing because that means one less thing to carry.
One question lulu...how do i wash/take care of my mat? I want it to last forever.
DEFINITELY BUY!! don't listen to the bad reviews, i feel like this mat is getting such a bad rep!

Great so far!
I bought this mat about a month ago and I am impressed with it so far! The rubber smell was overwhelming when I first unrolled it but I let it air out on my deck for two full days prior to my first use. This helped and the smell is almost completely gone now. I clean my mat after every use with warm soapy water. Sweat stains are difficult to wash and I have noticed that it marks up easily. There are a few scratches from where my toe nails have gripped and a few other marks that won't come off. I expected this though and it doesn't bother me too much. I am able to hold poses such as downward dog and warrior II without slipping at all! I also used to get very sore wrists while practicing on my previous mat and I have noticed a huge improvement with this mat. It is soft and cushiony. I haven't tested this mat with an extremely sweaty session yet as I am just getting back into my practice so I hope that it holds up!

surface material melted and glued together...
I heard lots of good things about this mat but for some reason, the one I got wasn't that "nice" at all. The rubber surface melted and glued together after ONE hot yoga class. I had to tear them apart and you can imagine what does it look like. I'm very disappointed.

Best mat I've ever had

Love The Mat at first...
It took me a couple months to finally buy The Mat. I have been using the Manduka Black Mat Pro for two years and loved it but hated having to use towels during my hot yoga classes. After purchasing The Mat I finally understood what all the rave was about. The grip was amazing and allowed you to really focus on the asanas instead of constantly adjusting as you slide. The Mat absorbed any sweat and actually helped with the grip as it got wetter.
However, I've been noticing that the mat is stretching out and sliding all over the floor in the studio, not only sliding up and bunching as I move, but also moving around on the floor. I adjust the mat at least 5 times throughout the class because my mat ends up slanted diagonally and bumping into my neighbors mat.
I made sure to ask all the questions and get detailed care instructions when I purchased it and followed them diligently because I had such high hopes for this mat. Lululemon has never steered my wrong with their products, I've always found the quality was worth the price. I've had The Mat maybe 3 months and don't think I can safely practice on it anymore. I'm very bummed out. Maybe this is just a defect, because the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Not quite sure what to do about this.

Indecisive of my feelings.
I've used the best and the worst of yoga mats. From natural rubber, to plastic and to strange foamy plastics.
This falls in the middle.
My personal preference is the natural rubber mat.
If you're doing hot yoga you'll need a towel if you're a sweater.
It's super hard to clean the sweat stains off of.
It's heavy and bulky.
But it's also cushiony and really grippy.
The verdict is that it's a good mat, but i've replaced it many times.

Great Mat, but now I'm slipping!
I've had the mat for a year and a half, it was fabulous for the first year grippy and very cushiony on my knees. In the last six months I started to slip in Downdog, which is why I switched to this mat. Slipping is the worst feeling especially when you begin practice, I have to focus on my grip and not the asana. I've washed it as directed many times hoping to reclaim the grip. Is there a life span on these mats? Is it time for me to replace the mat? I was hoping for a few years out of this mat. Looking forward to your reply.

I loved my mat from day one. I loved that it had a strong grip and created a steady foundation for arm balancing. My issue is that the grip has diminished. And now, especially since I started practicing hot yoga, I slip so often. I have a weak left shoulder and rotator cuff which makes using the Mat difficult and sometimes even uncomfortable as I tend to slip so much. I have been considering splurging on a Manduka since they have a lifetime warranty and I've only heard good things. I still prefer the new feel of The Mat over anything any day. So here I find myself in a pickle.
