The Mat 3mm

why we made this

Lugging a heavy mat to and from class can crush our calm. We designed this lightweight version of The Mat with a thinner piece of moisture-absorbing rubber so we can stay light on our feet pre- and post-practice. Shedding a little weight has never been so easy.

fabric + features

  • reversible - choose the surface to get the right grip for your practice
  • thin polyurethane top layer wicks away sweat and absorbs moisture
  • antimicrobial additive helps prevent the growth of mold, bacteria and fungi on your mat
  • natural rubber has a slight smell, but don't worry, it fades over time (we suggest you roll it out to air it out between practices)
  • wipe your mat down with warm, soapy water or soak it after a super sweaty class
  • imported

fit + function

  • designed for: yoga
  • fabric(s): polyurethane, rubber, latex
  • dimensions: 71" x 26" (180cm x 66cm)
  • weight: 3.96lbs (1.8kg)

go for the 5mm I wanted to love this mat, as I was getting back into yoga after taking some time off and an injury. I received this for Christmas and can no longer use it because it is so thin. I am disappointed with the price of it and the thickness, I would advise to spring for the 5mm. May 7, 2015
not the best I just got this mat a few days ago, I was looking for a better quality mat and the girls at the store convinced me it was one of the best, especially for at home practice. I have found that this was not worth almost 60 bucks, it still seems to bunch up and I can feel all of my bones collapse into the floor with this. I was looking for something light weight and easy to take places but I can't stand thinking about all the pain its causing me when I am doing my practice. This was a big waste of money and I would not recommend this to anyone unless you're never on hardwood floor. April 11, 2015
very disappointed I have the mat 5mm, i got it as a gift about 3 years ago and i fell in love. I figured, hey it's time to buy a new yoga mat to really invest in my future... so i thought i would give the 3mm a chance 1. because its such a pain trying to fit my 5mm when I'm leaving practice in a hurry, 2. there weren't many appealing colors there so i decided with the surge color 3mm mat, 3. it was really nice holding something light. My first time using it was last Friday, it wasn't too bad, just i noticed it was more permeable, hence the 3mm, okay i was fine with that. then i noticed i was slipping a little more than usual and i was all over the place. i figured hey its a new mat, i need to get used to it. I decided to go back to my 5mm mat Saturday and Monday, then used my 3mm Tuesday and then again on Wednesday... if i thought Friday I was all over the place, these two days... i was more focused on me moving my mat going through my flow. I am a bit disappointed, I would not recommend this for hot yoga, I'll give it a try in my other yoga studio though. Still love lulu though April 9, 2015
I like the grip, but wish I went with the 5mm I bought the 3mm because I take the mat on the subway to class. The woman at the store recommended the 3mm, and said while it is thinner it is definitely thick enough. Unfortunately, I do not agree! Every time my ankle bones or head or hips are on the mat I totally lose my zen and all I can think about is how much I wish I went with the 5mm! I would rather deal with a heavier bag on the subway than feel my bones rub against the hard wood floor. Also, it bunches sometimes, not sure if that would be true for the 5mm as well. I also agree with the dirty looking factor. I have it in Navy and it looks almost like it has scratches on it since the first time I used it and I can only imagine it will get worse. Overall, I like the grip even in hot yoga, but word to the wise - spring for the 5mm!!! April 6, 2015
All over the place The first time I used this mat I loved it, but after a few short weeks it started sliding all over the place. At first I thought that maybe it was the floor in the studio, but I've used it in several studios and it doesn't stay in place - a simple jump in and suddenly my mat is inches from my neighbor. I wish that I loved it, but it doesn't cut it for me. March 31, 2015
Not Functional This mat is far from functional with yoga or basic workouts. I gave it two stars because they finally had something in my favorite color, army green. I say this mat is not functional because I can feel by bones grinding on the floor beneath the mat and it is very uncomfortable - I have plenty of meat too. I am returning this 3mm mat and going with the 5mm mat in black. Also, the reviews about seeing marks on the lighter mats is true for the dark army green as well. I can see my feet/toe marks and I only used it one time. Not a great product. March 25, 2015
Great stickiness, allergic reaction I bought this mat about a month ago to use as a travel mat, but loved how sticky it was and started using it as my regular yoga mat. It's amazingly sticky/grippy even in hot, sweaty vinyasa classes, and the 3mm thickness is fine for regular classes and easy to carry around. However, I have been getting a weird face and hand rash almost every day? and realized that it starts almost immediately after using this mat and happens only on the days I practice with this mat. I'm not allergic to rubber/latex, as I've always practiced with a Jade rubber mat. If there's something allergenic in the Lulu mat, there should be a warning on the label. I'm really bummed because otherwise it seems like a great mat? but toxic for my every day practice. March 20, 2015
Functional but impossible to keep clean I have a regular size The Mat (in black) that I cannot live without, but it can get super heavy to carry around. I ordered this as a "travel" mat for times when I don't or can't carry around the heavier mat. While it is thinner and not as cushy as The Mat (which I obviously expected because it's smaller), the stickiness is still there and it functions just great as the secondary mat for which I bought it. I got the power purple, which is really pretty. I bought this last August and started using it very regularly in October. As I mentioned it worked great for what I bought it for, but after a couple of months it got so dirty looking that I'm embarrassed to bring it to class. I always clean my mat after every class, which normally keeps it looking just fine, but not with this mat. I've tried everything: lemon juice, vinegar, soaking in baking soda. I cannot get this thing cleaned, it's like it's permanently stained with dirt. So, now it just sits rolled up in the corner, pretty much unusable to me. It's unfortunate. March 13, 2015
I purchased this mat to take with with me to my YTT in India and I was told this was the best mat. Within the first 10 minutes on my first day it started to peel and rub off all over my tights and on the floor. I'm really not impressed with this mat. I buy all my yoga stuff from lululemon and I've never been this disappointed. It upsets me because I wanted a good mat and spent quite a bit on it. I've got some back issues so I needed a good quality mat. This unfortunately is not one. I hope when I get back home something can be done about this situation. March 13, 2015
Not so sweat absorbing? I purchased this mat in ultra violet as an update to my old mat based on the recommendation from the girl at the store. I explained to her that I would be using it for Bikram, and she ensured me that as long as I used it with The Towel, it would be fine and wick away moisture easily. I've used this mat once, and sweat had soaked through the towel onto the mat... Not a big deal, but FOUR hours later, it's still hanging over my shower rod trying to dry. I live in a small NYC apartment, and my roommates are less than thrilled. I know that I sweat a lot during Bikram, but especially having used the towel (which dried super quickly and was great!), I don't understand why the mat still has a sweat mark on it and it's been hanging to dry for so long? I've opened the window to try and get it to dry quicker, etc. and nothing is helping. Is this pretty normal? Am I going to have to let this air dry for several hours all of the time? Or does it just retain sweat marks? It feels dry, but clearly is not and I obviously don't want a yoga mat that retains sweat marks. Really disappointed. March 7, 2015
