Great Mat, no slip; sweaty or not-sweaty
I don't know what or where all these complaints are from.
I bought this mat directly from lululemons website.
Upon the first use
-It did not smell
-it had a slight slick to the surface
After a month of use, the mat has broken in nicely. I think most of the complaints come from people who just sweat too much and are being unrealistic. I personally sweat a moderate amount and I was still fine in hot yoga.

slippery when sweaty
I bought this mat (purple) 6 months ago. I had read that it was slippery during the break in period. Well I tried washing it with vinegar and water; sea salt and lemon juice; dried in the sunlight for several days in a row. It was an expensive mat and one that I researched since this was my first mat. During my yoga classes I am slipping so much that I borrow a studio mat and place it over top so that I do not slide while doing downward facing dog. If your palms or feet sweat even a little I would suggest that you consider a different mat. I realize that I could buy a towel to cover the mat but that would cost another $50-$70. It would be better for me to buy another mat!

Extremely Slippery Mat
i've had this mat for over a year now and it still isn't "broken in". It is so slippery that it makes it 10 times harder to hold a pose even something as simple as downward dog. I've washed it and it still didn't improve. I ended up having to buy the towel to put overtop so that I wouldn't slip. For spending 100 dollars, I would have expected this mat to be amazing. I would say do not waste your money purchasing it - a 20 dollar mat from Winners works better than this one.

Great for using at home
This mat is great. It doesn't slip and protects my knees in positions like camel. However, I am not the sweatiest person, so can't comment on how well it would perform under those circumstances.
The only draw back for me is the weight. Yes, the weight helps keep the mat from slipping, which I really appreciate, but its just too heavy to carry from class to class. I normally take public transit and I found my back was sore from walking with it, and trying to keep my balance while standing on the subway.
I do practice a lot at home so it works for me, but I have a separate mat I use when I go to class.

Worst Purchase Ever
I would say that I am a Lulu fan, I love every purchase I have every made from the store/website but this mat is terrible, not to mention dangerous to use. It is EXTREMELY slippery underneath my hands and feet, making simple poses like down dog impossible to hold during regular yoga classes. I did read the reviews that said it was slippery but I thought I could break this mat in with use over time, but it?s really not worth hurting yourself over. In my last yoga class I was sliding so much on my mat that the instructor actually gave me a different mat to use just so I could finish the class. I would STRONGLY recommend not buying this product. Oh and I bought it with the towel, and it helps with hands but does nothing for your feet.

the ONE mat
Made in Germany! Already that tells you a lot about this mat. It's not made in a sweatshop out of shoddy materials. This is the mat that the best asana practitioners use for a reason. It's the best mat money can buy. Sure it's expensive. But you'll never buy another mat. Period. Manduka guarantees it. That's a serious warranty.

Not for sweaty palm people
I really tried and tried, but this mat just doesn't work for me. After practicing yoga for a year and a half, I saved up and treated myself to this mat - as I'd heard nothing but good things. But I slip and slip and slip as soon as my hands and feet perspire.
I've had it for a few months now and practiced on it. I've cleaned - oh yes I've removed the film, but it doesn't help. It no longer smells, which is a bonus, but my downward dog is a downward slide as soon as my palms perspire a bit. For the record, I do not do bikram yoga, but I do tend to work hard at vinyasa and sweat.
I cleaned it with vinegar / water, rinsed, dried in sunshine.
I cleaned with eco friendly cleanser, rinsed, and dried in sunshine.
I scrubbed with coarse sea salt and a brush, rinsed, and dried in sunshine.
I did the vinegar thing -- again.
Just no luck. I think I may try "The Mat" but I am sad this didn't work, because I love the thickness and I like to feel "texture" on my paws when I am on my mat.

Love it!
The best purchase ever! For the first time I could do my whole practise without slipping and the mat stays put beautifully due to the weight. I really like the size too.
Before the first use I had to wash the mat to get rid of the slippery coating, washing detergent seemed to work well.
Also thanks for the fast international shipping :)

Smelly Mat, Smelly Mat what are they feeding you?
I bought this mat to replace my old lulu genuine rubber mat that they discontinued (please bring it back, pretty please). My old mat was starting to fall apart and leave little rubber bits all over my pants, ugh. This manduka comes with a lifetime guarantee which was a huge selling feature. I was not impressed with the odour from the mat. It continues to smell and if I leave it in my car it smells up the car. I actually had someone say that they thought something was "burning" but then I told them to sniff the mat. It smells chemically which is a real turn off. Also, its not a good mat for a heated class as its definitely NOT non slip (like my old one). Its very heavy which makes toting it around all day a chore. I should have bought the JADE as it was more like my old mat. Now I'm kinda stuck with this one! Don't buy it, shop around.

outstanding mat
This mat is perfect! The length is wonderful for taller folks (I'm not tall, but I can appreciate the extra room). It's a bit heavier than other mats (a bag or strap is helpful for transport), but the weight prevents any slipping or sliding and there is ample support in any pose. I have used it with and without a towel, in hot and "cold" yoga, and have had no problems.
