The Pure Mat 3mm

why we made this

Holding a pose with just one foot grounded can be tough, especially when we're sweating up a storm. We designed this natural rubber mat to help us get a grip when we're feeling shaky in Eagle pose. At 3mm thick it provides us with just enough cushioning but still keeps us connected to the studio floor.

fabric + features

  • cushion your hands and feet with two layers of natural rubber
  • practice on the textured side for a grippier feel
  • antimicrobial additive helps to prevent mold and mildew from growing on the mat
  • closed-cell nature of this mat makes it easy to clean - just spray down with soapy water or tea tree oil
  • first impressions aren't everything - the rubbery smell of this mat will fade over time
  • imported

progressively dissappointing I bought this mast in January (about 5 months ago) and have hardly been able to use it, I have used it for simple hatha-flow yoga classes - nothing too hard, or causing too much sweat, however every time I bring it out I am more and more upset with it. First of all, it is unbelievably slippery. I understand that it is not meant for hot yoga, or anything like that and its not really meant to be ultra-grippy, but when I am in a cool room, doing basic poses like a downward dog and I cant even keep my hands from slipping down the stupid mat, it goes to show how little grip I actually have. Very disappointing. Secondly, I have used it a maximum of 30 times in the last 5 months and it is somehow covered in scratches. Once again, I get that wear and tear does happen, and that's just life, but I have tried my hardest to take care of this mat. I let it dry out after every use, even if I haven't sweat on it, I keep it wrapped up in a yoga mat bag when I'm not using it, I don't use it outside, or anywhere other than the yoga studio for that mater, but somehow it has gotten scratched. Not just a scratch or two, it looks like I have left it laying on my kitchen floor for my kids and dogs to tear up. Seriously disappointing. For the amount I paid, I wasn't expecting some super-yoga-mat, but I was at least hoping for something that would work for easy, hatha-flow type classes, and this simply isn't cutting it. I will NOT be buying another, and I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. July 29, 2014
Just OK I tried the Pure Mat as a solution to my issues with 'The Mat' (I couldn't handle the smell!). I'm happy to report that the smell of this mat is much more bearable than the other, thicker lulu mats. However, it does not have the same cushion or absorption properties as 'The Mat'. Therefore, I would only recommend this mat to someone who just wants a nice, thin, lightweight mat. As for me, I am going to give 'The Mat' another go! July 25, 2014
smelly, unusable! I'm a big Lulu fan, speed shorts, tanks, capris...most of it. Practicing yoga 2.5 years now, decided to splurge on a mat and thought Lulu's would be of good quality. Wrong. While the grip is great, this mat SMELLS. I purchased it about 4 months ago and haven't been able to use it. I've tried everything to get the smell out. Soap and water, airing it out. NOTHING. Your body smells like the rubber after a yoga session. I tried to return/exchange it but my local Lululemon store refused. Just now sits in the corner of my room collecting dust. July 21, 2014
Pure Mat I was given this mat for a gift and looked up on line to read the specs and was surprised to see the comments about smell. Normally the new yoga mat smell really gets to me and I always air mats out for days before use. I noticed no smell with tho one and even double checked after I read the reviews. Maybe Lulu fixed the issue. Good for travel as it folds much smaller and lighter than my Jade mat. June 28, 2014
Smells like dead raccoons I'm usually a lululemon fan, but this mat could be weaponized. Picture the worst smell ever, and double it. Now imagine it never ends. His is going to the garbage and I'm going back to my walmart mat. June 13, 2014
Mat smell solution Mat smell was bad even after a week, but I washed it with Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Lemon Verbena laundry detergent (http://www.mrsmeyers.com/) and cold water in my bath tub and let it air dry and the smell is gone and is fine. I know that lulu says to wash it otherwise, but this worked for me, and all the reviews here seem to complain about the smell. hope that helps. June 9, 2014
Awesome mat but.... I love this mat, it's the perfect amount of sticky. My only problem with it is that I have it in green and it is washed properly etc but is discolored and has darker splotches on it :-( May 15, 2014
the pure mat ... ? First of all, this mat smells. It smells like chemicals, pure my a**. Who came up with that name because it is far from the truth. I bought this mat about 4 months ago thinking it was a better option than a cheap Wal-Mart version. But it was not. Not only does it smell months after you buy it but you cant get rid of the smell. Laying it out as suggested by lulu does NOTHING. My mat has stretched cresting bubbles in my mat which causes my hands and feet to slip during any pose. Ridiculous , worst mat I have ever bought. I regret this purchase 100% and would NEVER recommend this mat to anyone. Honestly don't waste your money on this one, it doesn't even deserve a 1 star rating. Way to go lululemon you made one horrible yoga mat. I wish I could get my money back for this one that's for sure, and I will NEVER be buying another mat from you. May 12, 2014
Love this mat, but it has some serious flaws. I honestly really like this mat. I've had it for a week and it's nearly perfect for me. It's more cushy than my 6 mm mat and it's long enough for me (5'8") that I don't have to readjust all the time. I like it enough that I can overlook its flaws, but there's a few things that it might be a deal breaker for others. My previous mat was a cheap , foamy mat from Amazon, so this mat is a serious upgrade. I practice yoga 5 days a week for 50 minutes a day. So here are the flaws of the mat: *The smell. Oh god, the smell. It permeates everything. I washed the mat three times and laid it open for about four days and it still smells. I have to make sure to wash my hands after I touch the mat, and that seems to eliminate the smell. I showered nearly 24 hours from the last time I touched the mat and rubber smell seemed to ooze out of my skin for the first five minutes or so. The smell doesn't distract me from my practice, but it is distracting afterwards because I am someone who constantly worries about how I smell. *My hands taste like rubber for about six to seven hours after practicing yoga. *The mat is slippery. I really only notice it in downward facing dog when my hands start to slip. It seems to be getting a bit less slippery. I make sure to have a towel within reach. *This mat is floppy. It is impossible to roll up unless it's on the floor . If I fold it, it's impossible to carry around. Not a super huge issue, but still slightly inconvenient since I like to roll my mat while I walk through the locker room. *Attracts dirt like no other. I don't use the grippy square side because I don't like to look at all the dirt caught between the squares. I use my towel to wipe dirt off of the zebra print side and make sure to wipe my feet off before stepping on the mat. Now, this sounds pretty negative, but I love this mat. Aside from those few flaws, this mat is incredible. I've used Manduka mats and Gaiam mats and I like nothing better than this mat. I would recommend this to a friend to check out, but I don't wholeheartedly endorse it because there are some things about it that one might not be able to stand. I recommend going to a local lululemon store if there's one near you and trying it out before you buy it. May 11, 2014
Disappointed I am disappointed with this yoga mat. I take very gentle, slow yoga classes, mostly for relaxation, so I barely sweat, and I lose my grip on this mat all the time. I feel unstable in most yoga positions because it feels very slippery beneath my hands and feet. I would not recommend this mat even for someone doing light or gentle practice. You will not feel stable, and you will not be able to fully concentrate on your practice. I am generally a huge lulu fan, and wear lulu clothes almost daily, so I was really disappointed when I discovered this mat was essentially useless for my yoga practice. I would 100% return this mat if I could, instead I am stuck with it, and will have to buy a new one. I will not be buying another lulu yoga mat. May 6, 2014
