The (Big) Mat
I love this mat
Got it for my home sessions and I love it. The smell does slowly go away and it doesn't lower my appreciation of this mat at all.
In fact, if Lulu had to change their receipe to get rid of the smell, it would actually be really sad.

You need a lot of space for this......
It is called the big mat for a reason..... This was a gift, I don't think I would have ever spent 88 dollars on yoga mat. I'll be completely honest, I'm not super into yoga I buy mine at TJ Maxx for like 8 dollars and they get the job done.
But I can see the difference between a lulu mat, and the Gaiam ones I've bought before. The bottom of this mat is not sliding anywhere no matter what surface you put it on. The mat also doesn't stretch with you and your feet don't slip while doing planks. Planks are hard enough as is without that happening thank you very much....It's pretty thick too which is nice, typically my elbows hurt just from the pressure but this is enough padding without sacrificing being able to balance on it.
The smell, I mean the label actually says it is going to smell at first just air it out.... It does kind of collect and hold the dust which is a bit of a hassle and it is a pain in the butt to roll up and store. But it is called the big mat what else would yo expect. Don't bring this to yoga class, it's way too big to carry around with you and you'll kind of be a space hog if you did............

BEWARE, the smell is terrible
I am unfortunately very disappointed with this mat. The size was perfect - it is wide and long - but the overwhelming chemical rubber smell was too much to handle. I gave it MANY chances... as the ad says, the smell will wear out, however it did not. I've been using this mat about 1/week for at least the past 10 months. I've even wiped it down as they suggest, but the smell is still there.
It is such a strong smell that I can't concentrate or relax during my yoga routine and my nose becomes irritated very quickly. I've even gotten headaches multiple times due to the smell. I didn't mind the price since I was so excited about the length and width, but I can't even bring myself to use it and had to buy another eco-friendly mat instead.
If you're looking for a long mat without a huge chemical smell, I'm sorry but you should keep looking!

Yoga Mat Nightmare
I live in Vancouver, Canada and I'm currently in Costa Rica to take a Yoga Teachers Training course... The mat that I'm traveling with is starting to break apart, plus it's a bit slippery in this climate.
I went to your website hoping to find what I'm looking for and I DID... The Big Mat (I'm 6'4") *BONUS* I see you promoting all the different countries you ship to. Sweet! So I click on shipping and Costa Rica isn't one of them. No biggie, I'll contact one of the courier companies... $300+
Do you have any suggestions on how I can have one of them shipped to me at a reasonable price? If not I fully understand!
Class starts January 11th.

Love this mat!
So, my hands and feet sweat. A lot. I hate it, but that's the way it goes. I have never found a mat where I didn't slip. I've tried Jade, Manduka Eko, any sticky mat I could find. None worked. But, this one does. Incredible. So happy with it. I still use my yogitoes towel over it when I'm practicing in a heated room, but that's mostly to catch the rest of my sweat.

A bit of a let down
I bought this mat because of the large size and that is what i like about it as I can lay flat without feet or head hanging over the edge. I do not like this mat because it takes a very long time to dry out after hot yoga session. I keep it covered with the big towel which fits perfect but soaks front to back after minimal time.

When my old yoga mat started leaving me covered in rubber balls, I decided it was time for a new one. I also discovered that I had a problem, slipping.
I bought a new mat that was useless, as my hands and feet would slip,as it seems I sweat right from the get go. Bought another that claimed to be non slip, but once again it didn't work.
Getting a bit desperate now found The Big Mat on the net, read the reviews and thought it seemed like the thing for me. It is.
It is super sticky, I can't get my hands or feet to move, and the rubber underside holds the polished wooden floor just as well. It does have strong rubbery smell, that I think will go in a few weeks. As did all the other mats I wasted money on.
I like the extra room of the big mat, but have only given it 4 stars as I find it a bit hard, but I think I will get used to that, and it does help with stability in the poses. Perhaps something under it would help, but for now I'll keep using it as it is.
A great mat for people who are concerned by slippage.
Also it arrived at my 2 days after ordering, couldn't ask for better service.

Smells Funny and Doesn't Stay Grippy
I bought this mat excited after reading the reviews from other people, but after laying it out for days and using it for 3 weeks, it still smells like burnt rubber. Every time I am in child's pose it is potent. Also, I noticed that the mat has already started to lose its grip and I am sliding around. Yes, I do sweat during heated flow classes but I should not be sliding this much. For this amount of money I really expected a better quality mat that didn't smell and lived up to expectations.

Used to be great, now, not so much
I bought my third big mat in May 2014. The first one was awesome and lasted for a long time. I sweat a lot and this was one of the only ones that has a big size and great for people that sweat.
The second did not last as long. The surface was not as resistant. I was reading reviews that the quality was lower for others as well but I decided to buy a third one because I loved it so much the first time.
Well, it's been six months, during which I got hurt twice so I did not practice for a total of two months and stopped my daily practice. So, this mat did not get used that much. The surface is now very slippery. It's like dust gets stuck on it and cannot be remove with cleaning. Therefore, it slips a lot. Plus, you can tell exactly where I place my hand and feet because the surface is so damaged.
Another thing is that the first generation really stayed in place. This one slide on wooden flooring. The quality really went down. Very disappointing. Plus, what's up that that dreadful green color? What happened to great design choices and high quality products?
As I am a big fan of yours, so it pain me to say this but my next mat will not be a Lululemon. Unless to go back to exactly how the first generation was made.

My husband and I both purchased the Big Mat in black. He is 6'4 and I am 5'10. This mat gives us great space to practice without having to hang off the edges in any pose.
We are both sweaty practitioners and this mat can handle it. No other mats worked for us. We spent so much money trying out other mats, we were so happy when we found this one.
We never wash it with soap. Any type of soap made the mat slippery for us. Only a good scrub down with water and washcloth works to keep it sticky for us. I can be super sweaty and it still grips good.
Thanks for the good mat.
