waistband failure - big problem
Same experience as many other posters, the waistband doesn't hold up for workouts. Earlier versions of the product had no problem. Really disappointing defect in a previously great product.

Best shorts I've ever owned
These are an amazing pair of shorts. The liner fits perfect and does what it's supposed to do. Only problem is the color selection. I have two black pairs and I'm looking to spice up the colors a bit.

From great to bad
The change in the waistline-elastic has ruined these shorts for me. They no longer stay up .. Total bummer as these were my go to shorts for years. Wish I could return the ones I just got but I decided to try them out and they've been worn.

Why did they change it?!
I have a few pairs of the original Response Short and unfortunately turned my white pair a shade of orange. Planned to order a few pairs online and then came across a few reviews saying they changed how the shorts fit. I popped by the nearest store and they have indeed changed the design and fit.
The elastic waist isn't as tight. It is noticeable when you wear it and comparing it side by side to the previous version. You now have to snug the elastic to get a comparable fit.
The material feels different even though they say they use the same. Just feels cheaper.
To differentiate the old vs. new look at the pockets. The new version has zippers on both waist pockets where the old version only had one zipper on the thigh pocket.
Here's hoping they'll bring back the old one...

Lack of elastic in the band is a deal breaker
I have always loved these shorts, but the latest revision is bad. Like many other people are commenting the waist on the kayak blue color no longer is elastic enough to stay up without really tightening the draw string. You don't notice when walking around but once you start a workout they want to fall down. It can be difficult to tighten a draw string while running.
Also, the pocket on the hip can causing chafing depending on what you have in there. I personally prefer it on the leg but both areas have their pros and cons

No longer my go-to shorts
I have to say that I am disappointed with the new run response shorts. I have purchased 2 pairs of these shorts approximately 2 years ago. These shorts fit great and were of a high quality construction that has withstood the abuse of a rigorous bodybuilding training program. To be honest, the shorts still so no signs of wear.
I recently purchased the new kayak blue run response shorts (finally some color!) at the local store in a size large, the same size as my old shorts. First thing I noticed was a change in the outer shell fabric. Feels much cheaper that my old shorts...perhaps thinner to make them lighter? Next major change is the lack of elastic in the waist and new drawstring. Now you have to tighten the drawstring all the way or they slide down during exercise!
My last complaint is the new cut in the seat of the pants. If you have "hockey butt" these might not be the shorts for you. I fit comfortably into the old rr shorts (even in the seat) but the new models are cut quite smaller. I considered sizing up to get more room in the seat, but the waist was too big.
I suggest that the design team tries to keep the cuts of their products between product years consistent, or at least take measurements from men who truly have "hockey butt" (perhaps the Canucks can help out here?)

Perfect! Except for the drawstring...
I've never owned any Lululemon gear, but was in need of some new running/workout shorts, and having heard rave reviews on the brand, decided to give them a try.
Now let's be up front here - the price on all of this gear is higher than average. That being said, I personally don't mind paying more if the quality reflects the pricing, and in this case, I have to say that it most certainly does. Big thumbs up here.
As some background, for comparison purposes, I am 34 years old, 6' 1" tall, weigh right around 185lbs. with a 32" waist and a 33" inseam. I typically run 3 miles about three times per week, and do about 45 minutes of weight training 4-5 times per week. I am pretty athletically built, and absolutely have that "hockey butt" that the website keeps referencing (by the way - great terminology - I had never heard that before, but it is very appropriate, even though I've never played hockey before in my life). I often have trouble with getting jeans, dress slacks, and pretty much any other type of pants to fit correctly. The "hockey butt" tends to pull the front of the thighs tight, leaving a less-than-desireable look.
So, after reading the descriptions, I settled on a couple pairs of the Run: Response Shorts. I just received them today, and went for a three mile run, followed by a weight workout. They fit perfectly! They were not too baggy, which made the run more comfortable, yet not too snug for the weightroom. I, of course, cannot speak for the durability of the product yet, but they appear to be very well constructed. Again, the big sell here for me was the fit.
Now, for my only criticism. The waist is a little loose (I ordered a Medium), which is actually good, as it leaves room for a customed fit, through the use of the drawstring. However, the drawstring is actually made of a stretch material, which backfires once you make the first crossover part of tying it. Once I crossed the strings and pulled on them to tighten the waist, the strings themselves tighted at the knot, without really cinching the waistband itself. I had to basically un-knot the strings, loosen the crossover, and then cinch the waist prior to actually pulling the crossover back tight. Obviously this wasn't a "deal-breaker" for me, but the drawstring would be a lot more "user friendly" if it were made of a non-elastic material instead. This would allow the user to make that initial crossover, and then pull the strings to tighten the waist, much like you do with your shoestrings, just prior to forming the loops. I may try to replace it with the drawstring off of my old running shorts by tying the old one to the end of the Lululemon string and pulling it through - we'll just have to see how annoying this becomes.
All in all however, and excellent product - good enough that I felt compelled to write this review. Only a really great product or a really poor product would prompt me to take time out of my day to do this...and thankfully these shorts are in the former category. I'll definately be buying more.

Why Did You Change the Perfect Shorts?
I have worn the Response short religously for what feels like years and I've just been in to the store to refresh my collection. I love the Response short so much that I don't even try them on. Having returned home and now worn the shorts to the gym, I am devastated to realize that the cut has changed!
Here are the changes I noticed:
Fabric is different - maybe a higher percentage of recycled material? This change isn't a deal breaker.
Pocket moved up - love this as I can pop my iPod in here now.
Waist band - this is where it all goes wrong! There is no elastic...the draw string has to be tightened to keep the shorts up and the fabric now clumps around below the waist band. And when doing burpees and other exercises, my shorts fall down.
General cut - is it bigger now? Just doesn't feel the same.
I never write feedback like this but I love your products so much and I particularly loved the Response Short. I know you need to evolve the line but in this case, I'm afraid you messed with perfection.

Prefect everything short
I have been using these shorts for just about every activity that allows it. Wore them in a hot yoga class today and like during all other activities. Had no issues. Good length and comfort. No problems with riding or bunching up during work outs. Will be getting another pair in the very near future.

Great shorts, but...
These shorts look great, but I feel that the liner can use some re-designing. They didn't provide enough support in the front. By that, I mean that there wasn't a nice pocket of space for the man jewels to fall into. If the liner was similar to that of Under Armour boxerjocks, I'd buy three more pairs of these shorts.
