no lasting power When I first purchased this mat a couple months ago I loved it. Like, really loved it. It was lightweight, super grippy during my usual power yoga class (where I tend to sweat a lot), and no need to carry a mat and a towel to class. After a couple classes I noticed the mat began to stretch out during such poses as warrior I and II, and triangle. This wasn't a big deal until today when we moved into triangle pose. I attempted to adjust my stance and the mat literally SLID across the studio floor. The teacher came over and flipped the mat over. The result - it stuck better to the floor but was so slippery that I slid around in down dog and didn't even attempt the wide legged forward bend. This mat is becoming both embarrassing and frankly, dangerous. Seriously disappointed. May 13, 2013
barely there, and i like it I leave "the mat" at my local studio and my second-best mat where I teach. I needed something for quick at-home practices and travel, and also something that I could easily strap to my backpack or drop in my pannier bag for trips to studios across town. The "un mat" was everything I expected it to be-- incredibly light and packable with that gorgeous, space age, slip-proof feel of "the mat". The lack of padding forces me to modify my practice (fewer knee drops, less forearm balancing), but most studios have blankets to help with that. The mat doesn't look like it can take a beating, though, and it already looks like the edges are vulnerable to being warped if they catch onto things or you bump the side against any corners or table legs. Great for travel!! I bought this mat so that I can practice yoga for when I travel back to Mexico next summer for a couple of weeks to see friends. I need a mat that is lightweight, but still durable, and can fit in my suitcase. This mat is perfect to pack, and I can still practice yoga while I'm away with a great mat! Thanks Lulu for creating a mat for us who want to be able to practice while far away with a great, light mat :) April 25, 2013
Good mat I got this mat for travel with the intention of it being used on carpet. I love it so much that I now use it regularly on top of my other mat and use them together. It is so sticky, no fear of slipping. I'm not a fan of the thicker mats and I'm not keen on the material of the 3mm mat so this a great compromise. I let it air out by laying it flat for a week and the smell is gone. April 20, 2013
Killer for bony limbs Maybe it's just how I'm built, I don't know. I'm not one of those people who is OK with the amount of cushioning in this mat. If I use this mat for yoga it HAS to be on carpet/over another mat cushion. I did yoga over a hard floor with this mat once and the tops of my feet/knees paid the price. That said, I like the grippy surface. I could see this mat being good if you travel and do yoga in hotel rooms. But everyday use? No. April 18, 2013
Finally not slipping! I really love this mat so far! I'm always slipping in both hot and non hot classes. Towel, no towel, doesn't matter. This mat is great, no slip and I'm not going anywhere! I got it in the coral pink colour, love it! Yes there's a slight smell but it's really not bad and apparently goes away. It's thin (so light!) but I honestly don't think I'll need more cushion unless it's a yin class. April 17, 2013
Love the Un Mat I was skeptical about this mat - worried about the stickiness, the smell, the thinness - other things noted in some of the other reviews. But I LOVE IT! The material is sort of magical - no matter how much I sweat (and I sweat a LOT), the mat stays dry and grippy - even where sweat drips, it seems to soak in and actually make the mat more grippy. No slipping and sliding, and I love the soft untextured feeling of it. The rubbery smell is very faint but not at all bothersome to me. And it's so light and easy to carry. I have the light periwinkle colored one - it does get a little dirty but cleans off easily with a quick wipe. I'm really happy to have it. April 9, 2013
Love it, but will it last? I LOVE my un mat. It's sticky and gets stickier as I get sweatier. It's thin so I don't wobble. It's black and my black nail polish looks badass against it. Here's the thing; I practice hard 6 days a week and after only a couple of months it's starting to show some wear in the areas where plant my hands and feet. A loss of the shiny layer? NO I do not use the wipes that everyone else uses to clean their mats, only soap and water. Perhaps the wear I'm seeing is buildup? Ewww...I'm wondering if its wear or just needs a more thorough cleaning? April 6, 2013
Best mat ever. I am completely in love with this mat. As someone who was frustrated through her early yoga-ing because of accidentally doing the splits from a low lunge or sliding into plank from down dog, I am so happy to not think about my mat while practicing anymore. I will say time to time I will drag my mat forward with me if I drag my foot up for Warrior 3 or standing split, but it's very rare and for the lightness of the mat, I don't find it that much of a problem. I could also see how some people might find the mat too thin if they're looking for under-knee cushion, but I don't mind that and find it nice to feel like I'm standing on solid ground. The one last thing is that I got it in lavender, and it does show sweat during class. That's not a big deal to me at all, and the sweat "stains" actually go away once they dry. The unfortunate part is that if you have dirty feet (I took mine poolside once and the pool deck was not all that clean), you may leave dark marks on the ligher-colored mats that will not come out. While my mat doesn't look as pretty as it once did, that's a very small price to pay given the fact that I can fold it up and put it in a carry-on-sized suitcase. I would note that if you fold it up, it will leave marks, but I haven't notice a performance change as a result of that. Like I said at the outset, I am very, very happy with this mat. Thanks, LLL! Colour recommendation About the colour: I got the mint (which I see is no longer available...), and I wouldn't recommend it only because it's so light in colour that every little fuzz showed up on it making it look a little dirty... It's certainly not the end of the world- but something to consider. I will also say that it's super grippy! So pumped about my new mat :) March 22, 2013
