Great Mat, Not for Commuting
I have some mixed feelings about this mat but overall it performs well. It holds up very well to Bikram practice and has taken a decent amount of abuse. The icky smell has not gone away and after classes my hands frequently smell like the mat even after washing. Also, I would not recommend trying to carry this bag long distances. It is a bit heavy. I was commuting with it, and it is very cushioned that benefit in practice is a detriment while commuting.

I purchased this mat about 6 weeks ago and was told that the odor went away but it hasn't. I can't use it without the distraction of the strong smell. Not only that but it shows scuffs and marks very easily. Like one other comment posted, I found this mat to be heavy.

Can't get a grip!
I like the design of the mat and it seems like it will prevent slipping but my hands always seem to slip during downward facing dog although my hands aren't that sweaty.
I would have liked more grip to prevent slipping.

Best mat ever
I tried many mats. I was slipping on all of them. I bought yogitoes towel,, it helped. Then somebody recommended The Mat.. i gave it a try and loved it.. It is very grippy. I am not sliding anymore! No towel required. The smell is already gone... small price for wonderful mat. I would pick darker color, it does dhow stains. But i do not care. Love this mat and would recommend it to anybody. It looks actually slippery but is is not slippery at all.

Worst mat ever
I've been practicing yoga for over five years now. Generally I'm not too particular about my mat.
I won this mat after doing a plank challenge and I honestly hate it. I don't know how it got any positive reviews.
It's far to heavy and bulky. It smells horrible and it feels strange. Without the little rivets it gets pretty slippery if you're doing hot yoga.
I don't know why anyone would want to buy this.

Loved then hated this mat
I've only had The Mat for 2 days and loved it at first. There were so many colors to choose from which of course was a plus. I went with the light green, very zen color. Almost immediately after using it I noticed that ANY sort of ANYTHING will show on this mat. Especially OILS! I feel dirty after using this because there's oil marks all over The Mat. I shouldn't have to wash it with soap after every use. Super disappointed. I really wish I would have known this. The last thing I want to feel while practicing yoga is anxiety over how my mat looks. Be cautious if wearing rings or bracelets as well. It scuffs just as quickly.

I loved The Mat until....
I received The Mat for Christmas this year and I was really excited to try it out! I ended up loving it! Yes, it smelled strongly of rubber at first and lasted for a little while but that isn't a issue anymore. My hands and feet didn't slip at all during my sweaty hot yoga practice. I have the "anitdote" color and it does look a little dingy where my hands and feet go at this point, but I had expected that from reading the reviews.
At this point, after about only 4 months of use, my main problem with The Mat is that, although my hands/feet still don't slip it all, it seems as though it stretches between my hands and feet when in an asana such as downward dog. As a result, extra mat sort of rolls around the edge of my feet. Additionally, it seems to have almost completely lost its grip on the floor. Sometimes when I am moving through vinyasa to upward facing dog, the mat actually moves with me and under my belly. These issues are very distracting and annoy me during my practice, where I am supposed to be able to unwind. After only 4 months of use I didn't expect the quality of the product to decline so rapidly, and I am disappointed that I am not able to love it as much as I did in the beginning.

Disappointed in the mat
I have had my "mat" for a year and absolutely loved it for the first 8 months (I practice Vinyasa about 3x/wk). But now it has completely lost it's "stick" and is visibly worn at the top and bottom. My whole studio has been purchasing the "mat" and I had been raving about it, but I no longer feel I can recommend it as it has worn out so quickly. I have cleaned the mat exactly as instructed by the Lulu customer service department (water, baking soda and water in the bath tub).
I will be researching another mat for my next purchase, which will hopefully have a longer lifespan.

Great for sweaty hands!
I have the clammiest hands in the world, its awful! I tried a few yoga mats from different places, and just assumed the problem was me and my clam hands. I couldn't even hold a downward dog for more than a few seconds without slipping and sliding all over the place. I then purchased a pair of leather gloves, this helped me from sliding, but it was horridly uncomfortable. I decided to pick up a Lulu mat when the chakra editions came out, mainly because I liked the colors. I tested it out right away, and could not believe I was doing yoga without gloves! No matter how sweaty I get, I do not slip on this mat. If you have sweaty/clammy hands like I do, I highly recommend this mat to you, its excellent and I could not be happier!

Purchased The Mat in Teal, staff were very helpful as always. This is the best mat I've ever had. Just the right amount of padding between me and the floor. The materials look and feel like they're really good quality. Different textures on each side is a great bonus I wasn't expecting.
I have no problem with the smell others have mentioned. Yes, there is a rubber smell, but it is certainly not overwhelming, no worse than any other yoga mat I've had and I don't notice it unless my nose is on the mat.
Only one small gripe, the coloured side marks too easily.
